IN the competitive world of tribute shows, few acts can capture the flamboyance of the most charismatic frontman of them all Freddie Mercury.
In 2003, Brisbane actor and musician Johnny Blunt wanted to create a show that paid homage to the musical legacy, energy and performances of Mercury's great rock band and so he conceived The Killer Queen Show.
It has a band of some of Queensland's best musicians and a wardrobe of detailed replicated costumes.
With an uncanny resemblance to Freddie Mercury, Blunt walks on stage and belts out Queen's best tunes, with no backing tracks.
The show begins with Queen's hits of the 70s, the decade of leather and long hair, and moves through the 80s and 90s, with the band playing hits such as Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Killer Queen guitarist Anthony Smith uses a signature copy of Queen guitarist Brian May's guitar to recreate the haunting sound recognised by the band's millions of fans around the world.
The Killer Queen Show: Castle Hill RSL, 77 Castle Street, Saturday, November 7, 8.30pm. Tickets are $25. To book, call 96335177.
