WHEN Suze DeMarchi burst onto the music scene with the Baby Animals in 1991, it was the dawn of a new era for Australian female singers.
Now, 18 years later and with a new album in the works, DeMarchi is proving she still has everything that made her and the band household names.
The single, Got It Bad, was released on April 7 and fans are happy.
``The only ones I can vouch for are those who have posted stuff on MySpace and they love it, it's all been positive,'' DeMarchi said.
``The new stuff sounds like the band and there's been a very good response.''
The video, which can be seen on the band's MySpace site, features DeMarchi's rockstar husband Nuno Bettencourt, formerly of the band Extreme, on bass.
``He filmed, edited and directed [the video] and it was great for me. Gone are the days where you spend $50,000 on videos.
``You don't have to spend that anymore. ``[Nuno's] great to work with basically he does whatever I tell him,'' DeMarchi laughs.
As a mum of two, DeMarchi said she finds it hard to leave her family when going on the road. This time, she'll be bringing them along for the Wish U Were Her tour, which hits Rooty Hill RSL on April 19.
``I don't want to be away from them for that long. Nuno's coming too and I might bring him onstage for a few songs.''
In February the pair, along with American and other Australian celebrities including Anthony LaPaglia and Simon Baker, took part in a soccer match in LA to raise funds for the Victorian bushfire relief.
``It was a great day and good to see so many Aussie faces. I think it raised a lot of money, too,'' she said.
Has motherhood changed her, musically?
``Definitely. I mean musically, I'm still really excited by the same kind of drum and guitar-based kind of stuff.
``You do become a lot more patient when you have kids.
``You look at the world differently when you have children. I think it changes you.
``It has to. If you don't I think that would be quite sad.''
As for the coming shows, DeMarchi is anxious to get back onstage following last year's successful comeback tour after 12-year break.
``We'll be doing a lot more shows this time around,'' she said.
``We'll be doing some new songs, which is great. Doing shows is the fun part and seeing old faces and the new ones.'' As for the album, a release date has not been set but DeMarchi promises it is coming. There's still a bit of work to be done.
``We're halfway through.
``The hard thing is trying to get the people all in the same room at the same time.
``It's logistics.''
