JESSE Tamsett and Lewis Moore are challenging their 'shitbox' car and braving rough and rugged terrain in honour of friends and family.
Mr Tamsett, 24, from Castle Hill and Mr Moore, 24, from Dural, will join 150 teams and drive over 3000 kilometres from Melbourne to Cairns in the Cancer Council's Shitbox Rally on April 14.
Two years ago, Mr Tamsett's mother and a friend were both diagnosed with bowel cancer. His friend passed away last year.
Mr Moore, owner of Moore Style an auto and car trimming company in Dural, grandfather also passed away from cancer.
"We have always wanted to go on a road trip around Australia and with my friend losing his battle to cancer last year," Mr Tamsett said. "We put two and two together."
So far the pair has raised $1000 thanks to friends and family but Mr Tamsett said they need the community to help them make the $4000 minimum needed to participate.
"If he could get more than $10,000 that would be really fantastic, as it's a very good cause," he said.
The rally's rules mean their car has to be under $1000. They plan to decorate it with paint and sponsors' stickers.
