Exams so far so good but challenges to come

27 Oct, 2009 10:34 AM
YEAR 12 students at Mt St Benedict College, Pennant Hills, are more than a third of the way through the biggest academic challenge in their lives.

Jennifer Tripoloni and Irene Mok spoke to the Hills News after their second English paper, which Jennifer described as ``pretty good''.

``It's the one I've liked the most of all so far,'' she said.

``In other years they've asked students to answer questions in three text types, but this year we just had three essays, which was easier.''

Both girls had written practice essays for their teachers and created general plans that they could adapt to specific questions.

Jennifer also memorised 60 quotes relating to the texts she had studied.

``I was worried that I was going to forget them, but it all came back to me,'' she said.

Irene also felt confident with the way she handled the paper.

``I was worried I would forget everything I had learnt, especially about techniques, because then I'd have to think of an argument on the spot,'' she said.

Irene is now preparing for three more exams, which resume this week with mathematics and extension English.

She will sit for economics next week and visual arts the week after.

Jennifer hasn't been so lucky she had three exams last week and will sit for another four this week before she finishes on Friday.

``I'm just trying to think about how I'm going to finish early,'' she said with a smile.

``I get one over with and then quickly focus on the next day. I want this to be a good experience, a good way to finish my 13 years of school.''

Jennifer wants to study design at the College of Fine Arts.

Irene hopes to study psychology to become an art therapist.

Both girls say they have balanced study with relaxation by exercising and talking with their supportive friends and family.

Exams this week include mathematics, biology and personal development, health and physical education.
