The Global Financial Crisis - a special forum

Ex-Northern Territory Chief Minister Clare Martin was recently in Parramatta as part of the second public information session put on by the Whitlam Institute and the University of Western Sydney.

Now the CEO of the Australian Council of Social Service, Clare Martin spoke about her concern for the welfare of many Australians as a result of the Global Financial Crisis. She explained that the long term unemployed, the disabled and many older Australians are all likely to experience the brunt of the crisis.

The session also featured two internationally regarded academics - geographer Professor Robert Fagan from Macquarie University, and economist Professor Raja Junankar from UWS.

The final session in the three part Getting to Grips with the Economy session is on Thursday July 23 from 5 – 7pm, at Riverside Theatres Parramatta.

The session features Professor John Quiggin, ARC Federation Fellow in Economics and Political Science from the University of Queensland; Associate Professor Steve Keen, from the School of Economics and Finance at UWS; and Dr Guy Debelle, Assistant Governor (Financial Markets) from the Reserve Bank of Australia.
