Winston Hills Mall extension raises concerns

Winston Hills Mall extension raises concerns

14 Apr, 2009 10:11 AM
THE owner of Winston Hills Mall has lodged an application to extend the centre to incorporate German discount grocery chain Aldi and several other retailers.

The application was lodged by Starby Pty Ltd with The Hills Shire Council in February.

A conciliation meeting was held last Wednesday between management, the council and three objectors, including the Winston Hills Residents Action Group.

The proposed extension will incorporate the former Mobil service station on the corner of Caroline Chisholm Drive and Langdon Road.

Objectors raised concerns about traffic and noise disruption and air pollution.

The owner is preparing a report to deal with all concerns raised and it will be presented to the council.

Please stop the extension of our shopping centre. Our 'village' like centre is being hijacked by money hungry managers. We have 3 large centres within close proximity to Winston Hills which I'm sure shoppers can utilise if they wish. Keep our centre as it is, it's enough with the carpark being completely ruined by unwanted boomgates. Why don't management actually ask shoppers what they want instead of ignoring the very people that keep the centre operating profitably, the local community shoppers. It appears this particular management have total disregard to any voice of opposition. How can we save our wonderful centre from being destroyed for the sake of what management deem to be needed. The extension would considerably increase traffic in the area. Our local roads are busy enough now, not to mention that there are 2 schools in the area.

I am a Winston Hills resident and I will be delighted to see Aldi open a store at Winston Hills. The site is an eye sore. Surely it was more of a pollution threat while being a servo. Coles and Woolworths need a shake up.

I am all for an Aldi at Winston Hills, the land where the service station was is a site for sore eyes. I also think the car park now is disgusting, the way the traffic has been redirected and all those speed humps, please do something about it.

Great to see ALDI is comming to winston hills. Competition is good for all of us. This will keep woolworths and coles honest with their pricing.

As a resident for over 30 years......I love the local shopping centre but i don't think a competitor for the other two would hurt. I'd likely save money ! Some more variety shops in that space wouldn't be bad either. I would object to any thing greater in size. There was a lot of opposition to the Hotel renovation and I note that it is one of the best in Sydney.

I am all for increasing the shopping centre. I don't really want to travel out of the area for shopping and can't see where pollution would be a problem....Just revert back to the old parking area open up the closed lanes again so that one doesn't have to travel nearly the full length of the parking area to turn around. Leave the boom gates in.

You have to wonder what was going through the minds of WHM management when they decided to install the boom gates and totally destroy the parking layout. All this expense to install AND to have someone sitting in the payment kiosk most of the day - for what. To prevent a few people parking there all day, who are most probably customers anyway. A massive expense for no return and to totally annoy existing customers. Maybe they will see the error in their decision and remove the stupid boom gates.
