JILL Taylor of Cherrybrook is in great shape, she's been training hard and most importantly, she's ready for the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games in October.
``It's so exciting to have a world class competition come to Australia. I am focused, I am working hard and I am hoping to do well,'' Taylor said.
The Cherrybrook Athletics Club member is competing in the shot put, discus, hammer throw, heavy weight throw and the weight pentathlon (a combination of all the events).
``I love throwing, it's such fun and I have been making the effort to really improve so hopefully by October, it will pay off,'' she said.
She certainly has been working hard just a year ago she was throwing 22 metres in hammer now she's clocked up a world ranking distance of 33.62 metres.
She also has a personal best of 11.06 metres in weight throwing (it's 7.5 kilograms in weight) also a world ranking distance.
``The hammer and weight throw are the two I am really working on and I am hoping to also compete in the World Masters Athletics Championships in a few years.''
Her aim at the Sydney Games is to make it to the top 10 in her events and a medal ``would be a bonus''.
``I am competing in the 50-54 years category and I am very excited. The competition is a great opportunity for people to have a go and it's a great test at international competition.''
Taylor is coached by John Clark at Cherrybrook Athletics Centre and she is also a NSW Masters Association member.
She lists her rapid improvements in the sport, ``getting over the 30 metre mark'' in hammer throw and cementing her world ranking distances as significant highlights.
``I am very very proud of myself. I like pushing myself and training hard. I love it,'' she said.
The Sydney 2009 World Masters Games will be held from October 10-18 and Taylor will be competing at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.
