CAITLIN Cockburn is doing pretty well for herself.
The 17-year-old, of Kellyville, is a top-gun volleyballer and she plans to keep getting better.
``I really enjoy the sport and I have a lot of fun playing,'' Caitlin said.
She's got plenty of reasons to be proud of her efforts in the sport for one, she's just recently played in her first Trans Tasman Volleyball Championships in Brisbane.
She represented NSW, which finished in third place. Competition winners Queensland, North New Zealand and South New Zealand also competed in the championships.
``It was a great tournament and a really good experience,'' Caitlin said.
``Some of the New Zealand players were a bit scary to play against, but they were all really nice.
``Queensland are always really hard to beat. I played setter at the competition; it was really tiring but I had fun.''
She has certainly improved on last year, when she just missed out on making the Trans Tasman side.
``Last year I was selected into the shadow team for the competition, so it was really nice to make it this year,'' she said.
Caitlin, who has also made the U19s NSW team (the national competition in Queensland is in July), thanks her sister for encouraging her into the sport she loves.
``I watched my sister play and became interested in the sport; it went from there.''
Caitlin also plays State League with the Sydney North Volleyball Club. She is a former member of the Hills District Volleyball Club. Her next goal is to make the U21s state team.
Kellyville High School students Mitchell Claxton, 14 and Chelsea Killey, 17, have returned from the Zone Athletics Championships with strong results. Mitchell was first in 100 metres, long jump and high jump and second in 200 metres. Chelsea won 400 metres, was second in javelin, 200 metres and 100 metres and third in the relay. They now compete in the regional championships in August.
