HILLS District Hornets basketball star Ellie Manou has injected her own flare into this year's Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) competition, playing with the Acuvue Sydney Uni Flames.
This was Manou's second appearance in Australia's premier women's competition, after she successfully made her debut with the Australian Institute of Sport in the 2006-2007 WNBL season.
Manou subsequently won selection in the Australian under 19 women's team, which contested the World Championships in 2007.
Australia finished the tournament in fifth spot, with Manou averaging 6.2 points and 4.1 rebounds a game.
Manou then headed overseas to play in the American College program with the Oregon Ducks, taking out their Most Improved Player award for the 2007-2008 season.
Upon her return to Australia, Manou signed to play with the Flames and helped take the team to this year's preliminary final, where they lost a gripping game to the Canberra Capitals by 61-56 at the Homebush Sports Centre.
Manou's statistics this season include 146 points (average of 6.1 a game), 105 rebounds (4.4 a game), 19 assists (0.8 a game), eight steals and 10 blocks.
Her WNBL career averages are 5.7 points a game, 4.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists.
