Star-studded cast for magical fantasy

JOIN Scarecrow, Tinman, Lion, Dorothy and her little dog Toto on their journey through the mystical land of Oz to meet the Wizard who can make all their wishes come true in this production of The Wizard of Oz.

The Riverside Theatres show will present a star-studded line-up including actor Luke Joslin of Kenthurst as the Tin Man, multi-Mo Award winner Adam Scicluna as the Lion and Castle Hill resident Laura Murphy as Dorothy.

The show also includes 150 local school students as the Munchkins and a community cast of 60 adults.

Murphy said she couldn't turn down the iconic lead role which Judy Garland performed in the 1939 movie classic of The Wizard of Oz.

"Every girl dreams of playing the role of Dorothy, so I feel very lucky to have this opportunity," she said.

"I can identify with her and everyone can relate to this show as it's the perfect coming-of-age story.

"Dorothy dreams of something more exciting, but in reality it's home where she really wants to be."

Murphy said the show was sure to appeal to people regardless of age.

"When we go through the scenes many parents and grandparents will find that it will be [nostalgic] for them," she said. "It will be what they grew up watching.

"Young people will find it magical.

"Teenagers will find it just hilarious."

Murphy's career as an actress and singer started alongside her father, Stephen, during his shows at Dural's Burning Log Theatre Restaurant.

"I couldn't escape the bug. I'm really lucky that I can do what I love."
