First day full of excitement at Kellyville Public

For most children the first day of school is a nerve-racking experience.

But for five-year-old Molly Weidemiere it was all excitement and joy as she sat in her red and white checker dress ready to begin her first day at Kellyville Public School.

She is one of eighty students who started at the school today.

“I want to meet new people, make lots of friends and see the chickens,” said Molly.

Having two sisters already attending the school, one of whom is the vice captain, Molly is already familiar with the classrooms and teachers.

As she unpacked her backpack she was well prepared for her first day with ready made sandwiches, a sunhat and raincoat.

Despite having experienced children starting school before, for mum Kirsty Weidemiere it was more difficult.

“She’s my last child to go to school so I’m a bit worried because she’s the baby of the family,” Mrs Weidemiere said.

Molly’s school appointed buddy 10-year-old Sarah Kelly held her hand and showed her to her new classroom ready to begin as a kindergartener.
