THE Hills Council has partnered with The Hills Salvation Army in a non-perishable community food drive.
The donations would be shared between The Hills, Rouse Hill, Dural and Parramatta Salvos branches.
"It was actually the [Hills] mayor's initiative," Salvation Army Captain Jodie Pethybridge, of Bella Vista, said.
"[Hills Council] asked if it would be OK for them to collect on our behalf — we didn't want to say no to that."
Hills mayor Michelle Byrne launched the appeal on Thursday.
Like the Rouse Hill Salvos, The Hills Salvos are a branch without a building.
"We hire part of Jasper Road Public School [Baulkham Hills] for a playgroup called Mini Musos on Thursday mornings but if people ring us we can arrange a place to meet them," Chad Pethybridge, also a Salvos captain, said.
"Some people feel very ashamed in coming in, but they shouldn't. We want to get to know them and become friends with them.
"Sometimes I've sat in on police interviews where juveniles were concerned, I've been support to people when they have gone to court, visited families where the child has had an addiction. We also take people shopping."
