Showgirls converge on Castle Hill

This year’s Castle Hill Showgirl, Kate Leckie will be among 15 contestants vying for the title of Sydney Royal Show Miss Showgirl 2013 on Saturday.

‘‘I’m very excited and eagerly waiting to compete,’’ Ms Leckie, 23, of Kenthurst, said.

She will have three opportunities throughout the day to impress the judges of the Zone 2 final which, for the first time in 12 years, is being hosted by the Castle Hill and Hills District Agricultural Society.

‘‘Two from Zone 2 will be chosen to represent the zone at the [Sydney] Royal,’’ zone co-ordinator Heather Williams said.

She said contestants would have no time to relax on the day.

‘‘Judging will start at 9am with a personal interview,’’ Ms Williams said.

‘‘They will also be judged on their table manners and presentation during lunch.

‘‘During the day they’ll wear smart day wear and during the evening they will attend a dinner at the Crowne Plaza Norwest wearing gowns and their [Showgirl] sashes.

‘‘There they will be judged again on their conversation with the emcee in front of 248 guests, including this year’s Castle Hill Showgirl runner-up Katherine Moriarty.’’

Zone 2 covers Blacktown City, St Ives-Northern Suburbs, Albion Park, Camden, Frenchs Forest, Picton, Castle Hill, Nowra, Dapto, the Hawkesbury, Luddenham, Milton, Moss Vale, Kiama and Berry.

‘‘It would be an incredible opportunity to represent agriculture in the area, especially being a city zone in the competition,’’ Ms Leckie, an avid horse rider, said.

Saturday’s judging will cover:

■personality;

■confidence;

■ambitions/goals;

■general knowledge (local, national and international);

■rural knowledge (general, local and about each entrant’s own show);

■personal presentation (style, grooming and deportment); and

■diction and speech.
