THIS year's Hills Relay for Life entrants can also join a world record attempt for the most heads shaved.
"To break the world record we have to get 58 people to shave their head at the same time," said Denise Daynes, co-chair of The Hills Relay for Life organising committee.
More than 450 people attended the launch of the Cancer Council's Hills Relay for Life 2013 at Event Cinemas Castle Hill on Wednesday, including the US Consul General in Sydney, Niels Marquardt and wife Judi.
"I'm delighted to be here with you to share this moment," Mr Marquardt said.
Master of ceremonies Gareth McCray said: "I believe that from last night's investment a generosity of spirit will flow into this year's event, as many will take back to their workplaces the view that 'We too should be involved'."
The Hills Citizen of the Year, Hills SES controller Evelyn Lester of Kellyville said she was busy finalising a relay team.
Ms Daynes said: "One of our new initiatives has been to involve the schools who have produced for us commercials promoting the [Cancer Council's] Fight Back [campaign].
"Our overarching message is 'May the 4th be with you' and 'Fight back'.
"The students' commercials will be played during the relay and relayers will vote on the best commercial. "The winning school will get a boot camp and a plaque."
