NEARLY 64 years ago Leslie and Noelene Heath met at a teen social night at the Methodist church in Leichhardt.
On January 31 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
The Cherrybrook couple, who received congratulatory letters from the Queen, the Governor-General and the Prime Minister, spent the day reminiscing.
"We retraced our wedding day," Mr Heath said.
"We visited the church where we met and were married in 1953 and the hotel where we spent our wedding night."
They still remember the moment they fell in love on a train ride home.
"We stood up all the way home on a crowded train, standing face to face talking — and both just realised," Mr Heath, who gave his wife a diamond necklace for their anniversary, said.
The Heaths have four daughters, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
Their daughters will join them on a cruise to celebrate their anniversary, and family birthdays.
They said the secret to a long marriage is patience and perseverance.
"Love one another through thick and thin, and don't let the small things get in the way," Mrs Heath said.
