Hatchet used to stop break in

Police were called to an aggravated break and enter in Crestwood on Saturday after an elderly home owner cornered an intruder with a small hatchet.

The intruder smashed a glass panel on the front door and crawled through the hole before being confronted by a 74-year-old home owner.

Police were called at 3.30am and arrested a 19-year-old Bella Vista man.

It’s alleged the offender resisted arrest and knocked one police officer to the ground.

He was charged with eight offences including aggravated break and enter, assault police, offensive manner and stalk or intimidate.

The man was given conditional bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on February 28.

Taxi driver takes man to hospital

Two men were assaulted after leaving two licensed venues in Rouse Hill and Bella Vista on the weekend.

On Saturday, a man was rushed to hospital with head injuries after being knocked unconsious on Annangrove Road, Rouse Hill.

Police allege two men approached the 22-year-old victim and punched him several times to the head.

He was rushed to Windsor Hospital in a taxi and later transferred to Nepean Hospital.

Police are studying security camera footage of the incident.

Three hours earlier a man was assaulted by a group of men on Celebration Drive, Bella Vista. They were described as 18-20 years of age and of middle-eastern appearance.

Mail theft arrests

A resident phoned police after seeing a man break into a group of unit block mailboxes on Crane Road, Castle Hill.

Police said the man used a butter knife to force the mailboxes open and take several letters before leaving in a Nissan Tida with a female driver at 2.05pm.

Police later stopped the pair at a South Wentworthville petrol station.

They were charged with steal from property offences and carrying a knife.

Both appeared in Fairfield Local Court last Thursday.

Truck exceeds weight limit

A Queensland man was fined $1191 last Thursday for driving his truck in a residential area.

The man, 32, was spotted by police on Redden Drive, Kellyville at 5.30am.

Police said he was carrying a full load of bricks and was well over the eight-tonne weight limit.

He was fined for operating a class two vehicle in a prohibited area, driving with an expired licence label and failing to complete a driver’s lock.

Castle Hill police traffic supervisor Robert Toynton reminded truck drivers that residential roads are not designed to cater for heavy vehicles.

‘‘Driving in prohibited areas can be dangerous and truck drivers should stick to set routes,’’ Sergeant Toynton said.

Driver caught speeding

Police fined a man for speeding last Wednesday after he was caught driving 61km/h over the speed limit in Northmead.

The man, 33, from Blacktown was stopped by police at 11.55pm on Windsor Road.

He was fined $2154 and suspended from driving for six months.
