The Hills community is being called on to support The Hills Shire Mayor's Care Fund in aid of the Bundaberg community that was affected by the Queensland floods.
There will also be a charity dinner in The Hills to raise money for the Madsen family.
The Marsden dinner is on Saturday, March 16 at Castle Hill Bowling Club and includes a silent auction.
Scott Madsen, the husband of former Castle Hill resident Shelley, has the rare condition cryptogenic cirrhosis, which causes liver failure.
They are living in the United States with their son, Joshua. But with a rare blood type and an urgent need for a liver transplant, the family is expected to pay $500,000 in medical bills — that is, if they can find a match.
Anyone interested in attending or donating to the silent auction should contact Lyndell Pilkington at lyndell @lsgh.com.au or on 0416 269 274.
Meantime, Hills Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne has invited the mayor of Bundaberg, Mal Forman, to send a family to a charity dinner on Sunday, March 24 at Mother India in Middle Dural.
The family will be flown to Sydney and a family from Wesley Uniting Church will billet them.
Organisers are calling on the community to donate raffle and auction items.
There are already some great items, including a signed Australian Cricket bat and another signed by Ricky Ponting. There will be market stalls noon to 6pm in front of the restaurant and then dinner at 7pm.
Tickets are $75 (available soon).
