The Hills District Hornets Basketball Association has made a bold showing at the 2013 Bruins Challenge, winning seven games and losing just three across Championship League Men, Youth League Women, Youth League Men and State League Men.
The Youth League women were the undoubted stars for the local association, winning all three of their games across the two days of competition.
Head coach Josh Chapman said he two of the wins were extremely close and the youngsters impressed him with their desire to win.
The Hornets opened their account with a 79-40 win over host association Bankstown Bruins, then edged past the Sutherland Sharks 64-60 and the Sydney City Comets 60-58.
Hills District's Championship League men made an outstanding start to the weekend, in their two Saturday games, defeating the Sydney City Comets 87-66 and the reigning premiers the Northern Suburbs Bears 76-65.
A slow start put the Hornets behind the eight-ball early on Sunday against the Sutherland Sharks and they would not recover, in spite of a 10-0 run midway through the third term
The Sharks subsequently held on for a 77-73 win.
The Youth League Men defeated the Parramatta Wildcats 84-60 and the Sutherland Sharks 103-56, before falling 86-72 to the Bankstown Bruins.
The Hornets State League men lost a nail-biter 78-77 to the Parramatta Wildcats.
