“Contemporary humanitarian” Yvonne Keane was highly commended for her services to hearing impaired children and their families at the University of Western Sydney’s annual International Women’s Day celebration today.
The Kellyville mother of two was one of 18 women nominated as Woman of the West.
Established by the university nine years ago, the award recognises women for leadership in their fields and for working tirelessly to make our communities a better place to live.
Ms Keane was a driving force in saving Hear the Children from closure four years ago.
It is a service that teaches hearing impaired children aged six weeks to six years to listen and speak, including her son Asher, who was born with a hearing impairment in March 2009.
