Anthony Maher is gearing up for the 60 kilometre bike route as part of Castle Hill Rotary Club's 18th Tour de Hills.
Mr Maher will make his debut at the annual charity bike ride which starts and ends at the site of major sponsor, Rouse Hill Town Centre, on Sunday.
The Tour de Hills Bicycle Classic 2013 begins at 7.30am with the 100 kilometre event; 8am (60km), 9am (30km) and 9.30am (13km).
It supports Hear the Children Early Intervention Centre at Rouse Hill and Rotary charities.
With a 65 kilometre a week training schedule, Mr Maher said he was ready.
"On the weekends because I work during the week, I do very long rides," he said.
"I also try to get out twice a week and do a 15 kilometre bike ride before work."
Mr Maher started cycling more than two years ago as a way to stay fit and strengthen his knees and joints.
"With the trouble I was having playing soccer at my age, David [David Collins of Natural Balance in Baulkham Hills] said 'if you take up cycling that would be less painful on your joints as cycling is easier on your joints compared to running or a football type of game'," Mr Maher said.
"Initially I got a mountain bike and started riding around."
In January, he decided to take up cycling challenges and rode in the Tour Down Under - Bupa Challenge in Adelaide.
Mr Maher said he likes to participate in tough bike rides as it helps him to stay focused on his training and fitness.
"It gives me something to focus on," he said.
