Andrew Punch, the Labor candidate for Mitchell, believes Canning Liberal MP Don Randall has "let the cat out of the bag about what the Coalition would do if they won government".
“The PEFO [Pre-Election Economic and Fiscal Outlook] was handed down after [the media] reported [that] Liberal MP Don Randall suggested the Coalition might break some of its policy promises if it won government,’’ Mr Punch said.
‘‘Mr Randall is quoted as saying, ‘There is going to be that sort of talk from the Coalition because governments do that’.
“Tony Abbott’s mentor is John Howard and we all remember John Howard’s ‘core and non core promises’ following the Coalition election in 1996 when John Howard became Prime Minister.”
Mr Punch challenged Alex Hawke, the Liberal MP for Mitchell, to be ‘‘honest with the residents of Mitchell and reveal what promises will be broken, what expenditure cuts will be made and explain why have a review of the goods and services tax if it is not the intention to change the rate or expand the GST to other goods and services’’.
■ PEFO forecast a deficit of $30.1 billion for 2013-14 and $24 billion for 2014-15. Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/federal-election-2013/you-have-the-figures-now-give-us-your-costings-labor-taunts-coalition-20130813-
