The Centenary of ANZAC Hills Community Committee has received a $100,000 ANZAC Centenary Local Grant.
On Monday Alex Hawke, Liberal candidate for Mitchell, congratulated the group.
‘‘I am delighted to be able to announce today that our community was among the first to apply for this funding and has been the first to be successful in being granted funding,’’ he said.
‘‘The Centenary of ANZAC will be the most significant national period of commemoration in our nation’s history.
‘‘The committee, led by Colonel Don Tait OAM, has worked incredibly hard to ensure that the program commemorating the Centenary of ANZAC is one which is dignified and inclusive and one that will bring our community together.’’
The grant will go towards community events such as a week of commemorations on the Centenary of ANZAC at Bella Vista Farm, a public concert of the music of the World War I and a Centenary of ANZAC stage show.
Mr Hawke said he was confident the commemorations held in The Hills will be among the ‘‘best in the nation’’.
“I look forward to working closely with the committee and the wider community to deliver commemorations that all in Mitchell will be proud of to honour our nation’s centenary of service and mark the nation-defining events of the Centenary of Anzac,’’ he said.
