Epping Quilters Inc will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a quilt show on September 6 and 7 in Carlingford, featuring a members’ quilt display and handmade goods and merchants’ stalls.
Buy handmade bags, table runners, Christmas gifts and placemats, to name a few. Business proprietors will have fabrics and notions for sale.
Proceeds will be donated to Ovarian Cancer Australia.
‘‘In particular, we want to contribute towards their very important work of raising awareness about this disease,’’ an Epping Quilters spokeswoman said.
‘‘There is no detection test for ovarian cancer and, contrary to popular belief, a pap smear does not detect the disease.
‘‘Each year in Australia almost 1300 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer — that’s three women every day — and more than 800 Australian women lose with this disease; that’s one woman every 11 hours.’’
Epping Quilters have made two quilts as prizes in a guessing competition. The first-prize quilt, entitled Dahlia Daze, won second place in the group/collaborative category at the Quilters’ Guild of NSW Sydney Quilt Show.
