BAULKHAM Hills High School students will sell Legacy badges and hold a barbecue next Thursday for Legacy Week.
The Parramatta division, which encompasses The Hills, Parramatta, Holroyd, Blacktown and Auburn, has one of the highest proportions of people supported by Legacy.
When a widow or family is registered with Legacy they are allocated a legatee.
Last year the Parramatta District raised $48,000.
The 22 students hope to raise $3000.
Year 12 student Jacky Yu, 18, said while the students don’t need Legacy services themselves, they had recently watched a presentation about their teachers and families who had been involved in the defence force.
The presentation, made for Anzac Day by students, covered past wars with teachers bringing in photographs of relatives who had been involved in the defence force.
“That had an impact,’’ Jacky said.
Principal Gordon Smith said the students have been fundraising for Legacy since he joined the school 19 years ago. The students have organised Legacy themselves since 2011.
