THE upgrade of Showground Road at Castle Hill is one step closer with the planning agreement formally endorsed by The Hills Council.
Castle Hill MP Dominic Perrottet said the Roads and Maritime Services, the council and the developer of Castle Towers — Queensland Investment Corporation — prepared a voluntary Planning Agreement to determine the timing and funding for the upgrade work to be carried out.
"All parties have now formally executed the agreement and planning can now progress," Mr Perrottet said.
"Building work is expected to start by mid-2015 and be completed in time for the opening of the expanded Castle Towers.
"The upgrade aims to increase safety and reduce congestion for motorists and pedestrians as developments in the area increase."
The road will be widened to four lanes between Carrington and Old Northern roads; upgrades completed at the intersection at Showground Road and Pennant Street; and new sets of traffic lights installed at the intersection of Kentwell and Cheriton avenues, and Rowallan Avenue.
Bus priority technology will also be installed at traffic lights to improve bus travel times, left-in/left-out restrictions implemented at the intersection of Britannia Road to improve road safety and off-road cycle facilities built along Showground Road to improve safety for cyclists.
