The Geographical Names Board seeks your opinion on a proposal by Parramatta Council to name a bushland reserve along Toongabbie Creek in Northmead “Yana Yirabana.”
“Parramatta Council say the name Yana Yirabana translates to ‘walk this way’ in the local Darug Aboriginal language and recognises the popular walking track that is a dominant feature of the reserve,” board chair Des Mooney said.
The new reserve would provide improved outdoor recreation and fitness facilities for residents.
Submissions close on October 31.
They should be made in writing to: The Secretary of the Geographical Names Board, Panorama Avenue, Bathurst 2795. Or online: www.gnb.nsw.gov.au.
