THE Hills mayor Michelle Byrne and her councillor colleagues will roll up their sleeves to wash cars on December 14 to raise money for the Salvation Army’s Bushfire Appeal.
Cr Byrne proposed the charity car wash as part of a mayoral minute at The Hills Council’s November 12 meeting and the idea was unanimously supported.
‘‘Here in The Hills, we know too well that it could have been us,’’ Cr Byrne said with reference to the bushfires which destroyed more than 200 homes in the Blue Mountains area in October.
‘‘Our rural north experienced some small spot fires throughout September and October and the iconic Tobruk Sheep Station [in Maroota] even came under threat.’’
She said she saw the car wash as an opportunity to support a good cause and ‘‘have some fun with the community’’.
