A BUDDING filmmaker has won an award for her impressive film project.
Ashleigh Vrajlal of Winston Hills took top prize in Robin Anderson Film Awards, a filmmaking competition for high school students.
She shared the prize with classmate Olivia Simpson.
Out of 350 entries, the two students from MLC School in Burwood, won best senior fiction film and the Robin Anderson trophy in the short film awards festival.
Their award-winning film, One Small Step, follows the story of a young boy struggling to come to terms with his father walking out on his family.
The girls won $2000, a camera, student membership of the Australian Directors Guild and mentorship with a leading Australian director.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the awards which were held at Circular Quay on November 8.
Ashleigh and Olivia have entered the competition every year since 2009. In 2011, Ashleigh won the best super short film (90 seconds) in the open section.
In 2012, the pair and two other classmates were finalists for the best animation film.
