Warning after Glenhaven pensioner scammed

A Glenhaven man, 83, nearly lost $700 after giving his bank password to a man posing as a Commonwealth Bank employee.

During the call on January 18 at 1.40pm, the victim was told he was required to change his password after someone tried to make a bank transfer from his account to India.

After giving his password to the caller, the resident later received a text from Commonwealth Bank advising him of a real attempted transfer to an account in India.

The bank told police the attempted transfer was cancelled and the matter is under investigation.

Castle Hill crime manager detective inspector Gary Bailey warned residents not to give out any private information to unknown callers.

‘‘That includes, birthdays, access or pin numbers,’’ he said.

‘‘If unsure who you’re speaking to, hang up and call your bank.’’
