AJ Ogilvy fires winning streak

THEY might be renaming A.J. Ogilvy as January Ogilvy from here on.

It was simply his month for the Sydney Kings in the National Basketball League.

The former Oakhill College student and Hills Hornet was on fire, as he led the Kings on a four-game winning streak.

They beat the Adelaide 36ers 102-89, the Cairns Taipans 92-88, the Melbourne Tigers 97-84 and the Sixers again 106-93 on Australia Day.

He was a big man with big statistics. Ogilvy recorded 68 points, 49 boards, 14 assists, four steals and 15 blocked shots.

But when you look at his background, it figures.

He's an Australian Institute of Sport graduate and represented Australia at the 2007 FIBA under-19 world championships.

He averaged 22.3 points and 9.8 rebounds a game with six double-doubles and was ranked third overall in scoring.

He was the 2005 NSW junior player of the year and has won the Basketball Australia and AIS academic-excellence awards.

He went on to star for Vanderbilt University in the US.

Alas, January came to an end when the New Zealand Breakers ended the Kings' streak 103-87 last Thursday.

They play the Breakers again at the Sydney Entertainment Centre this Friday.
