Fund-raiser for Christie family

Daniel Christie, 18, died after he was punched in the head while out in Kings Cross on New Year’s Eve.

The teenager's family switched off his life support 11 days after he was knocked unconscious by the single punch.

A fundraiser was held at the Madison Function Centre in Dural and all funds raised will help Daniel’s family cover funeral costs and medical bills.

The event was emceed by Gareth McCray and attended by Hornsby MP Matt Kean and Berowra MP Philip Ruddock.

Hornsby Councillor Antony Anisse’s parents helped stage the function.

Daniel McNamee from Art vs Science performed and Daniel Christie’s childhood friend Bethany Rose performed a song she wrote.

It has been a huge hit on YouTube.

Mr Kean said the community has rallied behind the Christie family, ‘‘for it could have been anyone’s son or daughter that was king hit.

‘‘Therefore it affects all of us.’’

He also said that we as a community need to change the behaviour of those who want to cause violence.
