WHILE many couples look forward to Valentine's Day, it's the day after that means the most for Warren and Julie Knight.

The Castle Hill couple will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday.

Mr and Mrs Knight met at a Methodist church dance in Windsor when they were aged 17 and 16 respectively.

"A lot of my friends met at church fellowships," Mrs Knight said. "Everyone went to church fellowships in those days."

Their first date was at the ice rink and they married at Newington Chapel on February 15, 1964.

Mr Knight said the key to a successful marriage was to "not bottle things up".

"Don't go to bed on an argument," he said. "Talk things out."

And Mrs Knight added: "Having close family helps".

She says she loves her husband's strength while Mr Knight says he loves the fact there are no surprises.

The couple are planning to take the whole family — four children and seven grandchildren — to Nelson Bay to celebrate.
