GABRIELLE Pace will take on the waves in Sydney Harbour to raise money for early childhood intervention organisation Lifestart.
Mrs Pace has entered Lifestart's Kayak for Kids fund-raiser on Sunday, March 30.
"I just thought it was a really cool idea," the mum of three said.
"The day sounds really fun and it's such a beautiful spot."
Mrs Pace has been using the services of Lifestart at Balcombe Heights Estate, Baulkham Hills, to support her one-year-old daughter Stella who has Down syndrome. At Lifestart, Stella learns communication, speech development and life skills.
Mrs Pace said Lifestart was beneficial for not only Stella's development but also her family.
"We can bring the other siblings along which makes it so much easier . . . they include them in the sessions," Mrs Pace said.
"They actually encourage you to bring the siblings a long because it's good role modelling for the speech of the other children.
"Ashton [Stella's older brother] has learnt sign language.
"The volunteers look after all the children while the mothers have a coffee.
"During this time we talk about our experiences.
"Sometimes the stories are happy and sometimes they are sad, but it gives you reassurance that there are other people who are experiencing what you are experiencing."
Mrs Pace has put together a kayak team called Team Pace, made up of four parents who attend the centre on Thursday mornings.
