The Hills mayor Michelle Byrne says it would be a good idea for the North West Rail Link to extend all the way to a second Sydney airport.
"Workers in Norwest Business Park could jump on a train to the airport where they could then catch a flight to Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth or even into Asia," Cr Byrne said.
She said she agreed with Premier Barry O'Farrell that if an airport is built at Badgerys Creek, then infrastructure such as roads and rail need to be funded.
He is now conditionally backing a second Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek.
Cr Byrne said Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun was also correct when he said the airport could be up and running within five years — not by 2027, as proposed by the NSW Business Chamber's Western Sydney Airport Alliance.
The Hills deputy mayor Andrew Jefferies called on the NSW Business Chamber to do more to educate western Sydney chambers to support a second airport.
