Sheerin Takoo has had a successful few months.
The Tara Anglican School for Girls year 12 graduate was named dux with an ATAR of 99.25 in her HSC and awarded a valuable accounting scholarship.
She will begin a Bachelor of Accounting at The University of Technology, Sydney this month on a tax-free scholarship of $46,500, and complete a 12 month full-time work placement with one of Australia’s largest accounting firms.
Miss Takoo attended Tara in North Parramatta from kindergarten to year 12, taking a short break in year 6 when her parents relocated to Holland for work.
She credits her success to the support of her teachers.
“I had either wanted to secure a cadetship or be part of the UTS Bachelor of Accounting program,’’ she said.
‘‘For both these courses it was imperative that the student was an all-rounder. Because of the opportunities offered at Tara I was able to tick off all the required criteria, gaining leadership potential from the opportunity to be peer support leader in year 11 and school prefect in year 12.
‘‘I also showed co-curricular involvement in sports like hockey and basketball, debating and attending school events.
‘‘These opportunities not only allow you to make great friends and have fun during school, but truly help in shaping you as a [well-rounded] person. If you choose those subjects you are passionate about, the learning experience not only becomes more interesting but also bearable — especially during stressful times in year 12.’’
