Riders and their horses from as far as Newcastle, Coonabarabran, and Goulburn travelled to Castle Hill Showground to compete in the 2014 Castle Hill Show horse sections on the weekend.

The horse sections were held over two days and included pony club events, hacking and breed classes.

The harness and heavy horse classes will be held at the Showground on March 30.

Castle Hill Show horse committee member Leanne Boyce said visitors to the Showground enjoyed the events and the weather.

‘‘We had a fantastic weekend,’’ Ms Boyce said.

‘‘The fog rolled in but once it lifted it was a beautiful day.

‘‘We were lucky to escape thunderstorms.

‘‘After we literally packed up, the rain came down.’’

On Saturday, Glenorie Pony Club, Hills District Pony Club and Matcham Valley Pony Club were the overall point score winners in the pony club section.

On Sunday, the horse SLM Icon,  ridden by Simon Deleeuw, won the Noble Archer Perpetual Trophy for the best gelding hack and he also won the Star Dancer Memorial Trophy for supreme hack.

Gem Park Harmony, ridden by Taryn Walsh, took out the Vanity Fair Perpetual Trophy for the best mare hack.
