More than 1500 people applied.

"I wanted to explore what the water field could offer a civil engineer with its importance in society and Sydney Water had the best reputation in this area,” Mr Craig, 22, said.

He holds a bachelor of civil engineering from the University of Technology Sydney and is currently engaged in stormwater investigations and systems design.

His other interests include snowboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, skating, water polo, AFL and travelling.

“The graduate program offers on-the-job experience and high quality training to university leavers, including a two-week induction period to ease the adjustment from university to full time work,” Hornsby state MP Matt Kean said.

Graduates will have two to three rotations during the three-year program, giving them experience in a number of areas within their field of expertise, be it engineering, science, commerce or communications.
