THANKS to the efforts of one resident, a play-cycle-loop path has been added to the playground design of Cherrybrook's Gumnut Park.

"The initial plan put forward to the community did not include outdoor exercise equipment," project manager James Frawley, of Hornsby Council, said.

"A resident campaigned for the inclusion of this, gathering signatures from many of the local residents. Council responded and modified the design."

He said the existing play equipment was recently removed from the park in Gumnut Road and would start to be replaced in May.

A council spokesman said the equipment was meant to be replaced in April, but the wet weather created boggy conditions.

When finished, the park will also have new paths; a playground with climbing equipment, slides and swings; an exercise area with outdoor gym-style equipment; an arbor of decorative and shade trees; new gardens and a new lawn.

The upgrade, part of council's 2013-14 capital works program, will cost about $150,000 to complete. It should be finished by June.

"The upgrade will deliver all of the [original] elements, including new play opportunities, exercise equipment and an enhanced landscape," Mr Frawley said.
