Each year in March, the school invites a graduate who has done well to present badges to year 7 students who have been awarded academic, music and all-rounder scholarships.

Mr Cunningham, a class of 1994 graduate, relocated to New York in 2008, where his flute, saxophone and clarinet playing skills are in demand.

Fifteen of the 16 recipients of 2014 scholarships were present to hear his speech on what is possible when humility, humour and passion are applied to personal and professional goals.

Mr Cunningham also took up the clarinet and joined the school’s stage band for a performance of Benny Goodman’s Sing, Sing, Sing.
