Giants step up to plate for a nationals spot

Players from the Greenway Giants will head to the National Little League Championships after a successful tournament at the state titles recently.

Kiyan Dolatshahi, Ash Eaton, Cooper Garth, Ewan Ney, Thomas Pellow and Ben Stevens all played extremely well at the championships, which were held at Milton Park, Macquarie fields.

Playing for North Ryde, the Greenway players helped their team to a bronze medal that booked their tickets to the national titles after they beat Hills North 14-4 at the bottom of the fifth record.

The players have been training long and hard since January — running, batting and covering the drills with enthusiasm, determination and perseverance to make their Little League dreams a reality.

Ryde North won four of the five games played in their pool, losing only to Manly during the four-day tournament.

It put them in second position the pool, securing the team entry to the Australian Little League Championships in Queensland.

The players will fly to the Gold Coast to compete at the National Little League Championships from June 4 to 9.

If they are champions at the National Little League Championships, Ryde North will head to South Williamsport, Pennsylvannia, to play in the 2014 Little League World Series.
