Amalgamation better than sharing: Hornsby mayor

Hornsby mayor Steve Russell said an independent report by auditing-advisory service KPMG shows local government is in need of reform and amalgamation is an option his council should consider.

The report analysed his council’s structure and finances and the potential impact of various reform options. Council invested $67,000 in it.

“The clear message to come out of the report is that amalgamation is a better option than sharing services between councils,” Cr Russell said.

Comments will be sought from neighbouring Ku-ring-gai and The Hills Councils and a copy of the report sent to Local Government Minister Paul Toole.
