Hornsby Council has installed interpretative signs across the shire, including at Cherrybrook, to mark 12 biofilters and describe how they work.

Biofilters mimic nature and use a combination of plants and sand to filter and absorb pollutants from stormwater run-off.

Since the 1990s more than 400 stormwater quality improvement devices have been installed in the shire’s waterways.
