The Hills mayor Michelle Byrne called on Premier Mike Baird to take a good look at the light rail routes she believes will best serve Sydney's north-west.

Cr Byrne has released three concept routes that connect Parramatta to Castle Hill via Old Northern Road and Parramatta to Macquarie Park via Carlingford; two are for Parramatta to Macquarie Park via Carlingford.

"One option goes via Pennant Hills Road and Carlingford Road," Cr Byrne said.

"The other option goes via the land corridor that has been reserved for heavy rail."

She said a light rail line that didn't include Carlingford "wasn't worth building".

"For years Carlingford has been the subject of many broken promises."

She said the population of Carlingford would rise by 46 per cent by 2031 and her concept routes addressed this.
