What's black and white, but not necessarily red all over?
The Border Collie Fun Day at Castle Hill Showground last Sunday (July 6).
And it wasn't just black and white — chocolate, tri-colour, blue merle and red and white were all out in force with their doting owners to celebrate the breed.
A crowd of about 200 packed around an arena to watch the super keen border collie athletes streak around an agility trial with jumps, tunnels, ramps and tyres.
Another popular demonstration was 'nose work' where a handler laid out a number of wooden rods and metal rods, touching all but one with his hands.
The last was laid down with tongs.
When the dog being trialled was released it raced over to the rods, sniffed them all individually, then picked up one and raced back to its owner.
Over three trials it had a perfect score of picking the unhandled rod.
Small, sleek, whippet-thin border collies demonstrated complete obedience while working a trio of worried sheep, as doe-eyed owners walked around introducing their border collies to eerily similar others.
