Cherrybrook Public School is among 2000 schools that use national mental health initiative KidsMatter Primary to help pupils develop life skills and resilience.
The program also trains teachers how to spot children at risk from poor mental health.
"Research indicates that nearly half of all mental health problems begin before the age of 14, and about one in seven school-age children will experience a mental health issue like depression or anxiety," said beyondblue general manager of youth research Brian Graetz.
"Evaluation of the initiative has shown it increases kids' optimism and coping skills, reduces mental health difficulties and improves students' grades."
