A man will face court on Wednesday after his alleged getaway hit a snag when the car broke down.
The man entered the Harvey Norman electronics store in Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon.
Police will allege he grabbed a computer hard drive and speaker set, stashed them in his car before returning to the store to continue his spree. They will also allege he made off with two iPads after cutting the security cables that keep them bolted to the table.
An employee chased the 33-year old as he exited the store. Another staff member was clipped by the side mirror of the getaway car.
The car was headed north towards Parramatta Road when it broke down. The man pulled over a few blocks along on Orange Grove Road, and according to police left the car and walked away.
Local police searched the area, found the vehicle and monitored it for the afternoon.
The man returned to the vehicle later that day and was caught with the stolen property.
"I don't think they'd be hiding. We would have parked the police car right next to his vehicle, so it is a bit strange he came back," Inspector Ken Henry said. "He could be a new contender for that show, world's dumbest criminal."
The man was charged with robbery while armed and refused bail.
The case will continue at the Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday.
