After months of waiting western Sydney’s new A-League team is taking shape with a club name, logo and first group of players to be announced later this month.
The club has less than five months to assemble a 23-man squad and has already set its sights on signing out of contract Australian captain Lucas Neill to a marquee player deal.
Western Sydney's newly-appointed executive chairman Lyall Gorman told Foxsports this week he would make an offer ‘‘too good to refuse’’ to the veteran central defender.
‘‘There wouldn’t be a club official in the A-League who wouldn’t be interested in securing Lucas’s services,’’ Gorman said.
Neill was recently told by his United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira that his contract - which expires on June 30 - wouldn't be renewed.
Several other Australians based overseas, and in the A-League, have also been linked with western Sydney.
