Kellyville Pets declared business of the year

KELLYVILLE Pets owner John Grima was overseas when he heard his business had won Business of the Year at the Hills Local Business Awards.

This was after the store took out the Best Pet Store category at the gala evening held at Castle Hill RSL Club on Wednesday, June 6.

According to his marketing manager Jessica Jonkmans, Mr Grima "could not believe that his little lowly pet store had won business of the year".

"We called him straight after we won the award and he put us on speaker and cheered to his whole family," Ms Jonkmans said.

"We are very honoured to be recognised among so many other fabulous businesses within our local community.

"This award recognises all the wonderful initiatives and innovation our little independent pet store brings to the industry, the local community and, of course, the animals.

"We believe our values and vision, drive and dedication and, most of all, our people and our passion is what makes our business such a success."

Kellyville Pets began almost 30 years ago as a modest backyard shed business with a limited selection of fish and a small amount of stock and is now one of the largest pet stores in Australia with more than 300 species of animals.

According to Ms Jonkmans what sets Kellyville Pets apart from others is the three Es: Expose people and children to pets; Educate them to become responsible pet owners; and Entertain them with our education courses and free in-store events and competitions”.

Ms Jonkmans said the staff's commitment and love of animals was shown in their recent project, 'Purrfect Partner Program' which has provided homes for more than 50 Animal Welfare League rescue cats and kittens since its inception. The aim is to house 50 more by Christmas.

The awards were made possible thanks to sponsors The Hills Council, Castle Hill RSL Club, Castle Towers, Stockland Baulkham Hills, Westfield North Rocks, Success Women's Network, PowerOf300 and Television Sydney.
