Crash tragedy of Baulkham Hills school girls

TABITHA and Madalyn Garay were the best of friends — sisters who did everything together.

Last Tuesday, a horrific car accident took the life of Tabitha, 10, and left her sister Madalyn, 12, in a critical condition.

The girls' grandmother, Jane Garay, 75, was also killed.

Katie Rixon, a family friend whose children also go to the Excelsior Public School in Castle Hill, said the tragedy had devastated the school.

"They are beautiful girls," Mrs Rixon said.

"They did everything together and always came as a package."

A donation fund has been set up for the family to help cover funeral costs and comntinuing medical bills.

"They are hard-working, community people," Mrs Rixon said of the girls' parents, who are in Newcastle at Madalyn's bedside.

"Their kids are their whole life. Every little bit that someone can spare will help them."

Police said Tabitha and her grandmother were killed after the car, which Mrs Garay was driving, left the road and hit a tree along Coomba Road, Whoota, near Forster.

Madayln, who was trapped in the car with her grandmother, suffered severe internal injuries.

She was flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for surgery where she is still in a critical condition.
