Model Farms High School students found the school’s missing newborn lamb dead in nearby Gooden Reserve on Tuesday.
Staff from the school contacted police earlier that morning after the one-day old lamb went missing from the school’s top paddock.
Principal Christina Bennet said the lamb was last seen by its mother’s side.
‘‘I don’t know how it got across the road,’’ Ms Bennet said.
‘‘We reported it missing to police because there was no evidence that it had escaped through the fence and nothing to indicate an attack — no blood, fur or nothing.
‘‘Maybe we made the wrong assumption, but what we were trying to do is enlist the help of the community to get the lamb back.’’
Ms Bennet said students and staff were ‘‘devastated’’.
‘‘We are not a rural school,’’ she said.
‘‘This is a normal occurrence in the country, but in the suburban area our kids are not use to this experience.
‘‘It is life and death on the farm.
‘‘It is sad.’’
Ms Bennet said she thanked the community for their support.
‘‘I’m absolutely thrilled by the support from the community from this,’’ she said.
‘‘Everybody has been wanting to return it back to its mother.’’
